Early in the sale, is an interesting banknote showing at Lot 2057. This is a banknote issued by the Chiing Dynasty in 1857. The note appears to be AU to Choice AU condition with one very light fold in the middle. This is a very attractive piece and the S/N is 3526. Bidders can get active on this note with a starting bid of only 3000 HKD. A few lots later at Lot 2078, there is a great note from the Bank of China. This is a 1912 “Manchuria” branch issue, with an ICG grading of V/VG. This is an extremely rare note and carries an opening bid of only 5000 HKD for bidders to pursue adding this note to their collection.

From other banks of Asia, this auction has many outstanding notes. At Lot 2268 comes a rarity up for auction. From the Mercantile Bank of India is a 1948 specimen banknote produced on the 24th of August, 1948. This is a 500 HKD banknote with a PMG graded Choice Uncirculated 64. There is no record to be found of this early date being up for auction so this is a significant banknote. There is a full description and 4 detailed photographs available for viewing in the online catalog at iCollector.com. This note has a starting bid of 84,000 HKD and is estimated to sell as high as 230,000 HKD.

Worldwide collectors can join the auction today, as registration and absentee bidding is open to the public. This auction will broadcast live from Wan Chai, Hong Kong, at 5PM January 10th, 2014 (Local Hong Kong Time). There will also be a live audio feed so bidders can feel a part of the action.
