US and Worldwide Banknotes, Scripophily, and Coins Up for Auction December 11th and 14th

Industry leading auctioneer, Archives International, in partnership with iCollector.com, have put together a fantastic sale to wrap up the 2015 buying year scheduled to run on Friday December 11th, and Monday December 14th, 2015. This auction presents over 1900 lots spread over two full days and this will be Archives International’s 30th auction being held over the last 8 years. Included in this sale is their sixth offering of exciting Chinese and Asian banknotes, scripophily, and coins.

On the first day of bidding on the 11th, there are over 900 lots of rare banknotes, coins, scripophily, and security printing ephemera. These items come from a variety of consignors including addition selections from the Arthur Matz collection. On the second day of bidding on the 14th, the auction is split into two sessions. In the first session, there are over 380 lots of the exciting collection of Chinese and Asian materials. These lots are being sold in conjunction with Rogers Fine Asian Auctions Ltd and have the privilege of bringing to the auction block Part 2 of the Alexander I. Pogrebetsky Family Archives of rare Chinese and Asian banknotes. Also of high importance is a rare collection of banknotes called “The Shanghai Banker’s Collection”. The final session of the auction on the 14th will be an interesting collection of US and Worldwide banknotes, scripophily, and coins; with many bargain priced items being offered to close out the year.

One of the most valued lots of the first day of auctioneering is Lot 894. Up for bidding is a Liberty Loan Bond of 1917 and is a 3 ½% bond of 1932-1947 and issued June 15th, 1917. This is for $50 and Jefferson is on the left and the Statue of Liberty is on the right. All coupons are attached, serial number is 696383, and this is graded as VF-XF. Bidding is opening at $1500 and is one of the best buys of it’s kind in the auction.

On December 14th, one of the flagship notes is part of the exciting offerings of Chinese materials. Presented at Lot 2270 is a Sin Chun Bank of China $1, Shanghai Issued, banknote. This was issued in 1907 as Shanghai Currency and is an un-issued banknote. The face is black on light peach and lime green under-print. There is an official looking notable on the right, a bank building on the left, and facing dragons on the top with a seal. PMG graded this as Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ with large even margins, exceptional paper quality, and a fresh appearance. This is a lovely note worthy of a superior bid and opens at $1800.

Starting time for the auction on Friday December 11th, 2015 is 10:30AM Eastern Time. On Monday the 14th, the first session opens at 10:30AM Eastern Time and the second session opens at 3PM Eastern time.
