A remarkable collection of numismatics, antiques and collectibles will soon go up for auction when Hawks Auction Services, in Las Vegas, Nev., hosts its Dec. 29 sales extravaganza.
All manner of memorabilia will be up for grabs that day, with several Frank Sinatra collectibles, some rare world coins, exquisite bronze sculptures and some extremely rare pirate cobs from the 17th century (lot #9). And it will be on the block simultaneously at iCollector.com, which will be holding an accompanying online auction.
Chairman of the board
Frank Sinatra is an American icon even to this day, even though it's been more than 15 years since his death. That legendary status has been cemented in many different ways over the years, but paintings of the great balladeer have always been of particular interest to his fans and admirers.
That's why the three original paintings (lots #1, 2 and 4) of the Chairman of the Board that used to hang in The Tender Trap bar, one of Sinatra's favorite hangouts in Chicago, will be among the most in-demand lots on Dec. 29. The works were produced by Robert Ivan Levinson, and they capture Ol' Blue Eyes in an array of poses.
Numismatics auction
Coin collecting and Las Vegas seem like they should go hand in hand, and with the Hawks auction, they will. Approximately half of the 120 lots that will be up for bid fall into the numismatics category, making for happy hunting for all of those coin and paper money collectors out there.
A set of six $2 bills from 1928, featuring Thomas Jefferson on the front and an eye-catching red label (lot #11) are particularly appealing, while an ancient coin from the era when Constantine ruled over the Roman Empire (lot #32) will surely appeal to history buffs.
Art auction
There are plenty of items of art on the table as well. With bronze sculptures by such luminaries as Frederic Remington and James Fraser and paintings by Alexander Calder and William Verdult, art appreciators across the globe will want to fly into Sin City or check iCollector.com to get their hands on these precious works of art.
Memorabilia auction
As exciting as all of those items are, sports fans may realize the most benefit from this auction, as an incredibly rare Cy Young autograph and baseball card (lot #18) will be among the many pieces of exciting sports memorabilia in the Dec. 29 inventory. And they can only be found in person at Hawks Auction Services or online at iCollector.com.
