This auction features an incredible selection of material from the brilliant artist Prince. The rarest highlight is presented at Lot 7487. Up for bidding is page with handwritten lyrics for “The Screams of Passion”. This is valued upwards of $10,000. As described in the catalog: “Handwritten and signed draft in pencil of lyrics for ‘The Screams of Passion’ entirely in Prince’s hand, one page, 8 x 10.5, circa 1984. The page is headed “The Screams of Passion, by Prince.” In part: “There’s a gentle autumn breeze that / blows whenever we be lyin’ in my bed / The moon appears and disappears / You look at me my clothes I quickly shed…Is it Sunday? Or is it passion / Help me / Do u want my passion / If u want my love, If u want my body baby.” In very good to fine condition, with a small bit of blue tape to top edge obscuring portion of song title, light scattered creasing, bottom right corner folded forwards, and show-through from a few lines of writing on reverse. From the collection of Prince’s assistant tour manager Gwen Leeds, who notes that Prince would frequently hand write song lyrics in a notebook and then ask that they be typed and supplied to his record company for registering and licensing. This was released as the first single off of the 1985 album The Family, thus becoming the first song credited to the band. It was also the first Prince-related track to feature a string orchestration by Clare Fischer, who would become a frequent collaborator throughout Prince’s career. Pre-certified REAL.”

The most valuable piece of the online catalog is a Jimi Hendrix Autographed Letter presented at Lot 7083. For the elite collector, this is valued at well over $30,000. As described in the online catalog: “ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10, American Airlines letterhead, November 16, 1968. Letter to “Jerry,” in full: “Your sister is out of sight plus beautiful plus groovy plus ALIVE plus electric. I hope well for you in the future of whatever you may go through. Remember yourself.” Below, he sketches a heart and adds “to your sister.” In fine condition, with interesting folds and mild creasing and toning; the overall visual appeal of this rare piece remains. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient, in part: “In November of 1968, my sister Melinda had a flight from New York to L.A. On the flight roster of important people was the name Jimi Hendrix…She introduced herself & told him she wa s a fan of his & had a brother that really liked his music also. But she was too embarrassed to ask for his autograph…she finally asked him but he said he was a little busy right then…As he was leaving the plane, he went up to my sister and apologized…and said give me your brother’s address and I will send him my autograph. A few days later I received a letter and autograph from Jimi Hendrix.” This incredibly rare letter comes from a significant time in Hendrix’s career-on November 16, 1968, his recently released album Electric Ladyland hit number one on the Billboard charts. Despite his wild success and wilder lifestyle-with nearly any woman he pleased at his fingertips-Hendrix was so enamored with the recipient’s sister that he decided to sit down, compose, and send this incredible letter. Boasting quintessentially ‘out of sight’ content from the iconic rock star, this is an extraordinary piece. Pre-certified REAL.’
