Burley Auction Gallery Offering the Jeff Shore Nightbyrd Collection on the Auction Block December 5th, 2015

Burley Auction Gallery is proud to offer the lifetime collection of Jeff Shero Nightbyrd up for auction on Saturday December 5th, 2015. This auction has over 320 Lots of his amazing collection of what made Austin, Texas the cool weird place it is today. Jeff was founder of “The Rag” in Austin Texas, “The Austin Sun”, & “RAT” in New York City and editor of the Los Angeles Free Press. A legend of the 1960s counter culture movement, Jeff worked with the leading Graphic artists of the 60’s & 70’s. There are authentic Vulcan Gas Company posters, Armadillo World Headquarter posters, as well as original signed poster art from Jim Franklin, Bill Narum, Ken Featherston, Danny Garrett, Sam Yeates, Michael Priest, Gilbert Shelton, some early Frank Kozik, Guy Juke, and other members of the Armadillo Art Squad.

His collection also features an original Woodstock Concert poster at Lot 141 unique relics from Woodstock like an official press pass at Lot 142, and the only know surviving example of the “Woodstock Survivors Guide” that was printed & distributed at the concert up for grabs next at Lot 143. There are rare and cool relics from Old Austin, the 1960s & 70s counter culture movement, a scarce Sideman signed and numbered nude of Janis Joplin at Lot 48, and much more. There is a good representation of 60’s San Francisco art including rare posters signed by Mouse, Moscoso, Wilson, Kelley, and Griffin. This auction is also including early psychedelic posters signed by Peter Max, and an original Pablo Picasso peace poster of dancing children showing at Lot 146.

A featured concert poster can be fetched at Lot 138. This is a concert poster from The Jimi Hendrix Experience in San Francisco from October 10th to 13th, 1968. The artists are Griffin and Moscoso and this poster is linen backed and measures 16” by 23”. Another standout poster is for the Rolling Stones in San Francisco. This poster is for the June 6th and 8th, 1972 concert created by the artist Singer. It is framed and measures 27” by 33”.

This is one of the most unique collections of rock culture poster memorabilia in the world. All lots are available in the online catalog with photos, descriptions, and pre sale estimates.
