Celebrate a Native American and Tribal Winter With Helm Auctions on February 11th

Over 400 lots hit the auction block on Saturday February 11th from feature auctioneer Helm Auctions. This auction contains Native American artifacts such as Navajo weavings, Pre-Columbian artifacts, and other pre-historic items such as arrowheads and other stone tools. They have featured a grouping of Polynesian and Melanesian artifacts, stone items, and other Pacific Rim artifacts. Basketry is highlighted with a great piece at Lot 106. Presented is a Fine Maidu Basket opening for bidding at $2000 and is circa the 1890’s. It is made of red bud and sumac and measures 21.5” by 22” by 6”. The Maidu are from Northeastern California and this is a museum quality basket with good investment value. There is only some minor rim damage. There is a beautiful selection of photos in the online catalog for inspection.

Lot 138 is a stunning Large Polynesian Shield opening for only $500. This is circa World War 2 and is made of wood, paint, and fibers. This is a collectible and rare piece that is hard to find at auction. The shield measures 13” by 71.5” by 4” and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This beautiful piece is ready to display and is a true conversation piece. There is an array of photos online to view and this is estimated to sell for several thousand dollars.

Helm closes out the last few minutes of the auction with a very important piece at Lot 400. This important Mezcala Figure M-14 is approximately 2500 years old. It is made of basalt, and measures 9.5” by 2.25” by 1.5”. From Guerrero, Mexico, this is the rarest type of Mezcala figure and is a museum quality piece. This comes from a private collection and is backed with a Certificate of Authenticity. Helm stands by all pre-historic artifacts and puts them up for auction legally without breaking any state or federal laws. This incredible find is a rare opportunity to bring something of this magnitude to the collection. It also is priced for great value at the auction and opens for only $600.
