A sports memorabilia auction will take place in Los Angeles on July 31. Sponsored by Nate D. Sanders, Inc, the auction will feature a great deal of extremely rare sports memorabilia. Of the dozens of lots going up for auction, several of the most impressive include the actual race suit worn by Fernando Alonso in the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix, a collection of letters typed and signed by Enzo Ferrari and 'Pistol' Pete Maravich's autograph. 1) Fernando Alonso 2008 Japanese Grand Prix race suit (lot # 1)
This lot is the actual race suit worn by Fernando Alonso in the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix, his final grand prix victory while racing for Renault. Originally produced by Formula Sport in Luxembourg, the Puma suit features a tag hand-labeled 'Alonso' and is covered in embroidered logos for sponsors such as Bridgestone, Puma, UNICEF, Elf and Universia. A completely one-of-a-kind item, this would make a distinguished addition to the collection of any racing fan. Bidding on the item is expected to start at $15,000.
2) 7 typed and signed Enzo Ferrari letters (lot # 5)
This lot, for which bidding will begin at $8,500, features a remarkably rare item: a lot of 7 letters all typed and signed by Enzo Ferrari. Written on Ferrari branded stationary, the letters feature a correspondence across a period of more than two years between Enzo and Dr. Francesco Santuccione. Each letter is signed simply with 'Ferrari,' omitting the sports car icon's first name. The last name is written in purple pen, and the correspondence is written in written Italian. This lot is a true gem for anyone with a passion for motorsports.
3) Vanderbilt college basketball program signed by Pete Maravich (lot # 98)
Having scored 3,667 points across an illustrious career at Louisiana State University, Pete Maravich is the all time leading scorer in NCAA men's basketball. Nicknamed "Pistol" for his incredible speed and passing ability, Pete Maravich went on to play for several professional teams, have his jersey retired by both Utah and New Orleans, and die tragically young of a heart condition at the age of 40, making signed items of his somewhat rare. Here we have a program he signed when his LSU Tigers took on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Valentines Day, 1970. This item is in good condition, and bidding for it will start at $300.
