The Best of Santa Fe 2015 Featuring Several Private Collections of American Indian Art and Artifacts

Allard Auctions is holding their annual 2 day summer auction with online bidding on iCollector.com. This is one of their feature auctions of the year and carries almost 800 lots from several private collections and various quality consignments. Among the auction catalog are American Indian artifacts, art, and related collectibles. There is a large selection of Pueblo and prehistoric pottery, great older and more recent Navajo rugs and weavings, an impressive accumulation of baskets from all the regions, classic old and fantastic newer pieces of Indian jewelry, and many pieces of rare and hard-to-find beadwork. This auction also includes a great selection of original art; including that of sought-after Native and Western artists, some nice bronzes, plus Eskimo relics, carvings, tradebeads, unusual tribal relics, as well as interesting and hard-to-find antique and Western collectibles.

Lot 136 throws in the “wow factor” in a big way. This is a Vanco Vintage Parade Saddle circa 1920’s to 1930’s. This is a fantastic sterling silver trimmed parade saddle. This is an exquisite example of a vintage saddle and is of standard size. There are several stunning photos for viewing in the online catalog. This historical piece opens for bidding at $3000 and is estimated in value as $6000 to $12000.

Lots 302 and 303 are excellent examples of concho belt’s up for auction. The first, at Lot 302 is a Navajo Concho Belt by Ray Tracey circa 1990’s. This is a fantastic hand wrought all silver, “sampler” belt. Each concho is 3” x 3 ½” each and representing the artist’s different custom stamps and styles. This belt is in excellent condition. The second belt at Lot 303 is from Roger Skeet Sr. This is from the mid 1900’s and is considered rare. This is an early unsigned hand wrought silver belt with a picture frame buckle that is 3 ¼” by 3 ¾”. This belt was identified by Mr Skeet’s daughter as being his own personal piece. This is in very good condition with a great patina. Both of these outstanding concho belts will be opening for bidding at $2000 and have several photos to inspect online.

On the second day of the auction, one of the biggest highlights is a Navajo Rug and Weaving circa 1870’s to 1880’s. This is a rare Moki-style Chief’s blanket woven of home spun Churro woll yar, and has Cochineal indigo dyes. The rug is in very good condition and a 2014 Burnham appraisal sets this at $150000 to $18000. This has undertaken a recent cleaning and a minor restoration. The dimensions of the weaving are 60” by 96”. Bidding is opening at only $5000 and interest is strong on such an outstanding piece.
