Firearms and Accoutrements from Cowan’s and Little John’s Auction on August 18th

Cowan’s and Little John’s team up for their annual Summer Firearms and Accoutrement’s: Live Salesroom Auction which will include an excellent selection of fresh-to-the-market rifles, pistols, accoutrements, collectibles and more. The auction broadcasts live on iCollector.com on Thursday August 18th, 2016 opening at 10AM Eastern Time from the Cowan’s location in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over 880 lots are going to sell on the auction block with incredible and historic buys as is common with this team of auctioneers. The auction opens up with a great highlight at Lot 10. Presented is a Colt Single Action Army Revolver with an opening bid of $1300. As fully described in the online catalog: “.44-40 caliber, 7.5″ round barrel length, S/N 54383, single line Colt Hartford address on top of the barrel. Left side of frame marked in 3 lines with patent dates. 6 shot fluted cylinder. Case color frame, lever and hammer. Blue barrel, cylinder and ejector with walnut grips. Condition: The barrel, ejector and cylinder all have traces of finish that is blending to a plum patina with wear to the edges and muzzle. The frame, hammer and lever have traces of case color blending to a darker plum patina. The grips are good with a chip to the lower left grip. The bore has salt and pepper pitting throughout. Mechanically needs a little work. Timing seems to be off.” There are several great photos to view online and this is one of the best Colt’s of the sale.

Lot 65 gives bidders an opportunity to bid on a Pattern 1766 French Charleville Musket that is US Surcharged. The auctioneer describes this in details as follows: “.69 caliber, 44″ barrel US surcharged at breech. Charleville marked iron lock. Walnut stock B proofed near side plate. Looks like WO marked on side plate, Tulip ramrod. This was the pattern the US copied to manufacture the Model 1795 musket. Condition: Musket has a grey to brown patina. Stock shows many dents and dings from heavy field service. 2.5″ crack in barrel channel at 2nd barrel band spring.” Bidding opens at only $1300 for this historical piece and the photos tell a great story.

A very interesting lot later in the sale is an assortment of telescopes. Lot 625 presents a lot of 19 including assorted makers and various sizes and styles. There are English, French, and American designs in the grouping. The conditions vary and this is a great collector’s grouping. They are valued in total between $1200 and $1500 and the winning collector will be getting great value for this treasure.
