A Life Time Collection of Antique Firearms Up For Auction on October 24th

Canadian auctioneers, Switzer’s Auction and Appraisal Service, have carefully put together an outstanding auction representing the lifetime collection of Mr. Al Wegler. He has been an avid collector for the past 60 years and this collection includes antique military long rifles, muskets, and edged weapons. All items were manufactured before 1899 and are therefore considered antique and do not require the services of an FFL. Bidders are welcome to join this auction which is presented in Canadian dollars. 285 Lots are up for grabs in one of the best single consignor collections of the year to show on iCollector.com. The catalog descriptions and estimates have been prepared using Mr. Wegler’s notes, and any questions from bidders are encouraged to phone the auction house.

The very first lot of the sale sets the stage for what this collection is all about. Up for auction at Lot 1 is a brown Bess 1st Model Long Land rifle. The description reads verbatim: “Pattern: 1743, Lock marked, tower with crown over G.R., Markings: I/9, Action: Flintsock Rifle, barrel length 46”, caliber: .57, Ram Rod, Brass Hardware”. An array of photos is available for online inspection.

Lot 16 is another highlighted rile of this collection. With a similar estimate to Lot 1, this will also attract busy bidding activity. Presented for auction is a Baker (Musket bore) rifle from circa 1810. The full description laid out for this lot is as follows: “Pattern: 1810, Lock Marked : Tower with crown over G.R R.+R.S., Action: Flintlock rifle, Barrel Length: 30 ½”, Caliber: .70, Ram Rod Brass Hardware.”. A very interesting Victorian Musket with pattern 1830 can be had for the highest bid on Lot 107. This is a .76 caliber rifle with sling loops, musket sight, and ram rod. The barrel length is 39” and the auction is a flintlock rifle. Bidding opens at a low $100 and this will sell for several thousand dollars and this is an excellent and high quality piece of history.
