2015 Auction in Santa Fe Presented by Manitou Galleries

Manitou Galleries is pleased to announce their annual Auction in Santa Fe taking place on August 16th and 17th, 2015. This year they present over 700 lots of the best selection of Western and Native American art and collectibles up for auction to the highest bidder. Included in this auction is fine art from past and present masters, and historical Indian and Cowboy artifacts.

Manitou Galleries holds this auction every August in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico. They are one of the foremost galleries in the West with locations in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Bob and Charla Nelson have built an outstanding reputation through their galleries and auctions, and have been established for over three decades. Manitou Galleries serves not only a strong local audience, but a significant network of national and international collectors and artists.

Two incredible paintings are up for auction in the first day at Lots 155 and 156. These two works are from famous and important artist Oscar Berninghaus (1874-1952). The first one at Lot 155 is an oil on canvasboard entitled “Twilight at Taos Pueblo”. This stunning piece of art measures 30 inches by 40 inches and is signed in the lower right. The presale estimated value is from $100,000 to $150,000. Next at Lot 156 he has another oil on canvasboard entitled “Ranch in Winter”. Here it is signed and dated ’49 in the lower left and measures 12 inches by 16 inches. This is a great value piece from a historical artist, with an estimate of $25,000 to $30,000.

Lot 298 is an outstanding collectible piece that shines in the first day of the auction. This lot presents a Cheyenne fully beaded cradle with original boards. It is 27 inches long with the original 39 ½ inch tacked boards. It is beautifully beaded with green, blues, yellow, and white heart red beads and is from the early 19th century. A full array of photos is up for inspection in the online catalog and bidding is opening on this incredible design at $25,000.

Manitou Galleries always sources the most beautiful weavings available for auction. On the second day, there is Lot 541 which is a Navajo weaving measuring 13 feet 2 inches by 7 feet 3 inches. This is a fine pictorial Teec Nos Pos floor rug and is probably by the original weaver. This looks be circa 1920’s and is a fine and highly collectible weaving. The opening bidding is a value at $8000 and this has an estaimte of $12,000 to $16,000.

Both auction dates, Sunday August 16th and Monday August 17th begin at 1PM Mountain time. Full online on all devices will be available and full photos and descriptions are in the online catalog. Registrations are open to all interested collectors, and absentee bids or live bids are welcome throughout the sale. This is sure to be one of the best Auctions in Santa Fe in history and Manitou Galleries has put an incredible effort into preparing this catalog.
