This impressive looking sign measures at 75” x 18” x 2” and is an important part of the mining history of the Comstock. There is chocolate brown text against a brown background that reads “Wiegand & Co / Assayers S Dowling/ Manager 38 No C St”. Another piece of history stands out at Lot 1227 in the online catalog. This is a very interesting Cripple Creek Mining and Business Directory from 1894. This document was published by Hazeltine & Co in Cripple Creek and has 161 pages. This begins with a description of the district and of the towns, and then describes the mines, mills, and prospects. There are several detailed sections as well as ad scattered throughout from local businesses. A great cover photo is available to look at in the online catalog and this item is opening for only $750 and will sell to the highest bidder.
One of the most beautiful pieces up for auction on April 10th is an MM Fredrick, Virginia City, pocket watch. This is a size 18 Elgin pocket watch with 7-jewel hunter case movement. There is a single sunk white “MM Fredrick” dial with black roman numerals and blue spade hands. The glass crystal is still in excellent condition.
