Native American Artwork and Collectibles and Estate Jewelry Up For Auction September 19th and 20th

Desert West Auction has set up over 550 Lots for bidding on the weekend of September 19th and 20th, 2015. This auction will include a wide selection of artwork and collectibles as well as the Posey Estate Jewelry collection from the 1950’s which will attract a lot of attention. There is a large collection of museum quality Mata Ortiz pottery including large pottery by Grace Sandoval and Luci Soto. Also, Desert West brings a wide Native American works such as jewelry, art, kachinas, pottery, and beadwork. Cowboy and Mexican collectibles can also be found through searching the online catalog. Both days of auctioneering will begin at 11AM Mountain Time for live bidding, and absentee bidding is available anytime leading up to the sale.

Lot 1138 shows up early with a great bracelet that will fetch a great value for the winning bidder. This is a Navajo Sterling Silver Turquoise bracelet. This beautiful piece is a turquoise cabochon set in sterling silver, and the inside measures 6 inches, and is 47.6 grams in total weight. There are three close up photos available for viewing in the online catalog. Another great piece of Navajo jewelry comes up a few lots later at Lot 1194. Here bidders will find a Navajo Old Pawn Sterling Turquoise Cluster Ring. This ring is size 8 and measures 1.5 inches by 1.25 inches. This weighs 18.5 grams in total and also has three photos for online viewing.

One of the items on day one that stands out is a gorgeous Large Mata Ortiz Textured Jar by Lucie Soto. This outstanding piece of work is predominantly textured with 4 gun metal finish lizard medallions, and is signed by this important artist. This jar measures 15 inches by 14.5 inches in diameter and is one of the must have productions of the auction. Bidding will be brisk on this one and this can be found at Lot 1193.

Looking into the second day of the auction, there are some great Kachina’s available for bidding. Lot 1302 is a very interesting one; a Carved Wooden Hopi Style Kachina that will sell for a great price to the highest bidder. This doll measures 14.5 inches by 3 inches by 2.5 inches. Over to Lot 1385 is an incredible looking Navajo Carved Wood Eagle Kachina by Platero MBPU. This is an Eagle Kachina that is artist signed by R. Platero, who is a Native American Navajo carver of great renown. This is depecited in mid dance with traditional garments and accented by wood burned designs. This kachina is attached to a base of unfinished wood. The dimensions come in at 18” inches high, by 16” wide, by 14” in diameter. Both Kachina’s have a great array of photos up in the online catalog ready for inspection.
