Coins and Paper Money From The US and Around The World

Fox Valley Coin Auctions are presenting one of their biggest auctions to date on September 22, 2017. Over 900 lots will be up for grabs on the action block. Included are coins, currency, jewelry, pocket watches, vintage toys, and selections of antiques and collectibles. Bidding opens up live at 3PM Pacific Time on auction day, with absentee bidding now open to the public.

The most valuable coin of the sale is coming through the auction block at Lot 1177. This is a 2014 $1250 Howling Wolf Pure Gold Coin. It was made by the Royal Canadian Mint and is a half kilogram. This is a 99.99% pure gold coin with a diameter of 85 mm and a metal weight of 500 grams (over 16 oz). Only 25 of these were ever minted and it comes in a beautiful collector box with a certificate. Bidders can see the photos in the online catalog.

Lot 2033 serves up vintage gold certificate. Presented is a $10,000 note from 1900 from the Friedberg 1225 series. Numismatic lore and many auction descriptions tell the story of a fire at the then “new” Washington, DC Post Office at 12th and Pennsylvania on Friday December 13, 1935. During this event, many government records were tossed out of the sixth floor windows and into the street below, and among these records were several hundred cancelled $10,000 gold certificates. Many onlookers picked the notes up and took them home. This is the accepted explanation behind why many are found with moisture stains and a few with charring. This note will have it’s own story to tell and is opening for bidding at only $140.

One of the featured US coins is Lot 3135. This is a 1937 D Buffalo Nickel (3 legged). It’s in a holder and graded by NGC and MS64. A further ahead is a 1913 D available at Lot 3173. This piece is also in a holder with an NGC grading of AU58. Both lots have photos available for online inspection with low opening bids.

The auction opens for live bidding at 3PM Pacific Time on Friday September 22nd, 2017. Included in the live bidding will be an audio and video feed to deliver the action anywhere in the world. Absentee bidding can be done at anytime leading up to the sale. Fox Valley has carefully studied each piece up for sale and will be happy to answer any questions through email or telephone.
