Antique weaponry from the American West will be available March 15-17 as part of Reata Pass Auctions's Spring Estate and Gun auction. The three-day event will feature not only unique examples of antique firearms, but also various bits of Western Americana straight from the prairies and plains. The live auction will be held in Dewey-Humboldt, Ariz., with a concurrent online auction taking place. Collectors can also browse the lots of this massive firearm auction at iCollector.com.
Antique weaponry
Antique knives and firearms comprise the focus of this auction. One of the rarest pieces available to collectors is the 13.5-inch U.S. Krag 1900 "Bowie" bayonet (lot #390). Less than 3,000 of these large knives were ever produced, making them exceedingly rare. Additionally, this bayonet comes with its original scabbard. The scabbards alone are known to sell for as much as the knife, so the two together make for a truly exceptional addition to any collection.
In terms of antique firearms, a beautiful Colt Bisley .45 Cal handgun with gold-colored finish from the Richard Mack Collection will be available (lot #705a). The gun features ornate etchings on the barrel and cylinder along with silver medallions on the grips. Richard Mack was an Arizona sheriff and outspoken gun rights activist.
Western Americana
While firearms are at the center of this auction, there are also many lots of historic Western Americana. For example, a cast iron and brass inkwell with a pen included conjures up images of handwritten documents (lot #1), while a brass tacked wooden cowboy trunk harkens back to a simpler time (lot #15). Those looking for antique interior furnishings will find a victorian floor lamp that appears to have just stepped out from a saloon (lot #27) as well as a fully functional oak cabinet Victrola from the early 20th century (lot #77).
This auction includes more than 2,000 lots spread over three days, providing ample opportunity to walk away with a significant addition to any collection. Collectors of western antiques as well as those just looking for interesting accent pieces for their homes are sure to find something amazing at this auction.
