From the Umayyad Caliphate during the reign of al-Walid I of 705 to 715, is a great historical Islamic coin up for bidding at Lot 155. This will be very early in the sale and is 2.88 grams. This is a bold strike, some graffiti in reverse field and near the referse rim, and is EF to About UNC in grading quality. The opening bid for this important coin is $12,000 and is likely to exceed estimates due to it’s historical nature.
One of the big highlights of the first day of the auction, comes up for bidding near the end of the afternoon. At Lot 672 is an important coin from the Islamic Republic of East Turkestan circa 1933 – 1934. The First Eastern Turkestan Republic, or Islamic Republic of East Turkestan, was a short-lived breakaway republic founded in 1933 in Sinkiang Province. It was centered on the city of Kashgar in what is today the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China. With the sacking of Kashgar in 1934 by Hui warlords nominally allied with the Kuomintang government in Nanjing, the first Eastern Turkestan Republic was effectively eliminated. This interesting piece of historical coinage is estimated to sell upwards of $10,000.
The highest graded Norwegian coin for the entire 17th century is a very interesting auction piece at Lot 1555 in the 2nd day of the auction. This coin has Christian V, who reigned from 1670 to 1699. NGC grades this piece at MS64 with an estimated value of between $9000 and $11000. It is a lovely toned example and superb strike and is truly unique coin to add to a collection.
