Daniel Frank Sedwick Coins is excited to present their 18th Treasure Auction up for live bidding on October 29th, 2015. This will be their third auction that will include a live audience in addition to online bidders. This is a very important auction for 2015 and presents over 1200 lots throughout the day. This will also be accepting online absentee bids for anyone who can not attend the online bidding on auction day. This sale will go down in history as the “Hearts and Royals’ auction. Never before have so many Hearts and Royals been offered at the same time at auction. These are very special coins from Potosi, Bolivia that were made in tiny numbers and not put into circulation. In addition there is a wide range of Treasure coins and coins from around the world.
Lot 93 is a great example of one of these coins and comes with an opening bid of $12500. This is a Potosi, Bolivia bust that is 4 escudos, Charles III, 1778PR. This is an encapsulated NCG AU 58, a very rare first date, and is the only specimen in NGC census. This treasure has light orange toning with muted underlying luster, a nice strike, and is so rare that this is the only specimen slabbed by NGC and therefore the finest on record. Pre sale estimates look to be exceeded as this is a coin for serious collectors and a rare find at auction. Photos of the lot are available in the online catalog.
Later in the sale is part of a selection of interesting pieces from Mexico. Lot 456 presents a Mexico City cob 4 reales from 1715. The weight is 11.93 grams with a clear date (rare) and somewhat odd sahped flan with light surface corrosion and toning. This was recovered from the Spanish 1715 fleet off the east coast of Florida. This is a great value piece for the collector and comes with an opening bid of only $240.
Lot 720 is one of the highlights of the auction. This is arguably the finest known of it’s issue. Presented for auction is a Potosi, Bolivia cob 8 reales Heart (Corazon) from 1704. This is unholed and is very rare. Seldom do collectors encounter a cob so astoundingly lovely and rare that it takes days to come up with a proper description. A very important description can be read in it’s entirety in the online catalog on iCollector.com and it presents how significant this piece is. Serious collectors must go after this coin as it has no equal. Bidding on auction day will be opening at $70000.
Daniel Sedwick will be broadcasting a live audio and video feed for the online bidders for the entire day of the auction. The auction will be split up into 4 sessions throughout the day, with the opening Lot starting a 9AM Eastern Time on Thursday October 29th, 2015. Bidders should browse the entire catalog to see all of the treasures available as it is an extensive list. All inquiries can be filled by speaking with renowned experts by calling the auction house at anytime during business hours.
