9th Annual Deadwood Western, Antiques, and Firearms Auction on September 10th

Dakota Plains Auction is excited to return for their annual Fall auction. On September 10th, they will be sending over 360 lots through the auction block, all selling to the highest bidder. There will be firearms such as Winchesters and Colts, Native American Art, and a selection of bits, spurs, and beautiful saddles. Also included are some great gambling collectibles, artworks, photos, and more. All items are available are priced to sell and this will be their best Deadwood auction ever.

Lot 114 offers a very interesting collectible firearm. Up for bidding is a Texas Lawman’s Colt Commander .45 cal semi automatic pistol. It belonged to Lubbock County Texas Sherriff DL Sonny Kensee (1935 – 1998). In the words of the auctioneers, “Keesee was described as a colorful, controversial and outspoken giant of a figure to that area of Texas, elected five times and the first Republican voted into the position. The pistol is in fine condition with nickel finish, brand engraving by Texas engraved Leo Ferguson and fitted with beautiful stag grips. Included is Keesee’s Lubbock County Sheriffs badge made from Mexican peso by George Stumps who also made badges for the Texas Rangers through the 1990’s, hallmarked to reverse, his AW Brill stamped leather holster and the book Texas County Sheriff by Sammy Tise where he is listed on page 348. Est. 3500-5500”. The history behind the firearm is makes a great conversation piece and bidding opens at $3500.

Winchester rifles are always in demand at auction. Lot 229 is a Winchester 1876 50-95 cal special order lever action rifle. It has a 22” round barrel, button mag, standard walnut stocks and a rifle butt. The rifle shows very good condition as refinished, and there are no chips, cracks, or repairs. This was a scarce special order rifle 1876 with great caliber and features. Estimated value of this is $4800 to $5800 and it could exceed the high estimate at auction.

One of the top spurs in the auction catalog are a pair of single mount spurs from GS Garcia. Available for bidding at Lot 233, these are tapered and have beveled inlaid heel bands. There are 2 ¼” chap guard drop shanks and a 2” 10 point rowel. It comes with the original heel chains and is in nice overall condition. The lot includes 2 pieces with unmarked straps and silver conchos. Bidding is opening at $1500 and the selection of photos in the online catalog are standout quality.
