Kolbe & Fanning To Auction Selections of Numismatics Books from Two Important Libraries

Kolbe & Fanning Numismatic Booksellers have put together an online auction featuring selections of numismatic books and memorabilia from the libraries of Margo Russell and Raymond Hale. In addition to these and other properties, there are over 360 lots of valuable and important material up for auction. The online auction will be taking place July 25th 2015 through iCollector.com.

Highlights include signed books and other memorabilia from the library of Margo Russell, editor of Coin World from 1962 to 1985. While never considering herself a numismatic scholar, Russell’s position at the center of the hobby and her personal charm meant that many authors sent her inscribed copies of their books. Many such titles are included in this sale, including works rarely encountered signed by their authors.

Lot 63 has the New York State Museum Wampum Collection by Noah T Clarke. This is from bulletin 288, 1931 with original printed card covers and includes 7 plates of wampum belts. The book is holed twice near the spine for inclusion in the binder, and is in very good condition. This is an interesting and well-illustrated monograph on a collection that was the subject of much controversy. The collection and the official role of Wampum Keeper were returned to the Onondaga in 1989.

A highly collectible Hardcover 1945 Kelly Fixed Price Catalog is up for auction at Lot 153. This is the 1945 Fall Price list No. 21 of United States coins, patterns, tokens, colonials, as well as foreign and ancient coins. The book is in its original maroon cloth and original printed card covers. This is in fine condition and is clearly an official production by Kelly.

The catalog of the celebrated numismatic collection formed by William Forrester Dunham, with the complete series of US coinage, is a highlight of the sale and available for bidding at Lot 205. This has the original embossed printed gold and silver card covers and is 287 pages with 4169 lots in the catalog. There are two enlarged photographic plates of both sides of Dunham’s 1804 dollar, commissioned by Mehl and inscribed by him on the back. A photocopy list of prices realized is also bound into the book. A full and detailed description of this historical piece of numismatic literature is available in the online catalog.

The live online bidding commences at Noon Eastern Time on Saturday July 25th, 2015. Absentee bidding is currently available on iCollector.com, along with full descriptions and photos of the entire 364 lot catalog. This auction is sure to attract a wide interest of collectors and historians and has been carefully prepared by the leader in numismatic books and materials.
