The 2018 Paris Sale Showcasing Canadian, World & Ancient Coins from Geoffrey Bell Auctions

Geoffrey Bell Auctions would like to welcome all bidders to their inaugural Paris Sale, in conjunction with the Paris Coin Show (previously known as the South Western Ontario Numismatic Club and Collectibles Show). The live auction kicks off on Saturday February 3rd, 2018 with over 600 lots. This sale includes a wide selection of Canadian coins, banknotes, and tokens, US coins, as well as a fantastic grouping of ancient coins. Absentee bidding is currently being accepted in the online catalog.

Lot 23 is a German historical coin sure to be popular in the bidding. This is a Hesse-Cassel Friedrich II Taler 1778-BR graded MS62 by NGC. This is a mint state example with impressive original lustre. This coin is the infamous “Blood Taler” used to pay the Hessian mercenaries in the Revolutionary War. Bidding opens at $500 and this is estimated in value up to $1250.

A 1924 Canadian One Cent is up for grabs at Lot 96. This piece is valued at up to $5000 and is graded MS-64 from ICCS. The photos are up in the online catalog and it opens for only $1000 looking to be a great buy at auction.

Lot 146 gives the most valuable Canadian coin of this auction in the form of a 1847 Fifty Cent piece. It is a maple leave with a curved left, and graded ICS MS66. Bidding is opening at $2000 and there are a trio of photos for inspection in the online catalog.

A very special piece comes through the auction block at Lot 437. Presented is a coin with an encased postage stamp. The description from the auctioneer is as follows:

“CH MT-10. Weir & Larminie Bankers and Specie Brokers, Montreal C.E./PAT AUG 12, 1862. J. GAULT. 1c Stamp, Blue. Extremely Rare!”

This rare piece is valued at up to $20000 and will attract many collectors. There are some great photos for viewing online.
