Kolbe & Fanning Numismatic Booksellers is the largest and longest currently active rare numismatic literature firm in the world. Established in 1967, their first mail-bid sale was held in 1976 and today they average four mail-bid or public auction sales per year. The firm is a member of the International Association of Professional Numismatists. The sale features outstanding numismatic works covering ancient and medieval, as well as modern foreign and United States coins and medals. The 2015 sale is especially strong in classic books on post-Renaissance European coins and medals and United States numismatic rarities.

A highlighted book stands out at Lot 156 in the online catalog. This is a rare and highly desired book entitled “The Sun King’s Collection of Ancient Coins”. This book was likely published in the 17th century and is a large folio style at 20.25 inches by 14 inches. It is original mottled full calf, a spine with seven raised bands, and a second spine compartment lettered in gilt. This incredible publication has the spine title “Medaillons Du Roy” and has many medieval and ancient coins noted inside the book. There are 8 photographs as well as comprehensive description available for viewing on iCollector.com. The opening bid is $17,000 and has an estimate of $25,000.

Near the end of the sale is hard to find, and very rewarding, collection of Stack’s catalogues. This well preserved collection covers the years 1935 to 2005. This is a near complete run of over 500 catalogues from 70 years of auctions. The only missing pieces are from Oct 1,1999 , Oct 13, 2004, and Nov 17, 2004. This is a very difficult collection to put together and it is outstanding to be able to provide them in one lot. This will sell to the highest bidder and the opening bid is only $8500.

Bidders can bid live staring at 12:30PM Eastern time on Saturday January 10th, 2015. Absentee bidding is currently open for anyone unable to be online during the live auction by simple registering and leaving the maximum bid; the technology does the rest. iCollector.com is thrilled to have such a prestigious auction on their platform, and look forward to welcoming bidders from around the world to this once a year event.
