The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation Auction

Dakota Plains Auctions kicks off their 2016 year of auctioneering with an auction for The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation. The auction takes place to a worldwide audience of bidders on January 30th. Over 400 lots have been consigned and carefully prepared to present a collector’s dream day of bidding action. There will be firearms such as Winchesters and Colts, Native American Art, and a selection of bits, spurs, and beautiful saddles. Also included are some great gambling and mining collectibles. All items are available to the highest bidder.

Lot 98 highlights a highly desirable pair of spurs. This lot is an impressive Rex Schnitger pair, with 1” split heel bands. The spurs have 3 1/8” shanks, 2 ½” 16 point rowels and engraved silver bands. This pair of spurs is in fine condition and is available for an opening bid of $1500. Further in the catalog is another stunning pair at Lot 201. Presented at this lot is a pair of JO Bass Spurs which will be up on the auction block with an opening bid of $2000. This is a great single mounted pair of spurs with wide heel bands that are from the famous Texas maker JO Bass. The well is marked with #400. There are over 50 pairs of spurs up for auction here and all are detailed with photos and descriptions in the online catalog.

There are over two dozen Colts to buy in this auction. One of the highlights of the selection is an engraved Colt SAA .45 cal revolver with a 4 ¾” barrel that can be fetched at Lot 116. The piece is nickel and gold plated with pearl grips and in good to very good condition. This has nice action with a very good bore and was manufactured in 1905. Opening bid on the auction block is $2250. At Lot 157 is another premium revolver. This one is an antique US Colt SAA 45 cal. that has a replaced 7 ½’ barrel. It has an Ainsworth inspected trigger guard and an inspected backstrap. The revolver comes with one-piece walnut grips and has excellent action with very good bore. This collector’s piece was manufactured in 1887 and carries an opening bid of $1250.

One of the best Winchester’s of the sale is ready for bidding in the online catalog at Lot 168. This is an 1886 Winchester 44 RIM SN 119XXX saddle ring carbine. This has lever action with a 20” barrel, walnut stocks and a brass carbine butt. This is an nice and honest rifle with original 66” barrel and magazine. There is a brass frame and buttplate with a wonderful dark uncleaned patina, and the original saddle ring and staple are intact. The action functions nicely, and the bore is dark but good with an above average carbine. Manufactured in 1874, this piece of history is up on the block for an opening bid of $2500.
