Memorabilia auction features items from all-time great sports heroes

Sports fans won't want to miss out the memorabilia auction that will be taking place at American Auctions in Melville, N.Y., on Dec. 16. Featuring items from some of the most famous heroes in sports, as well as mementos from historic games of the past century, this auction is a great opportunity to find the perfect holiday gift for any sports fan.

For those who can't make it out to Long Island for the event, there will be a simultaneous online auction taking place at iCollector.com, where bidders can log in and bid on their favorite items.

Tickets to the big game
The Super Bowl will be coming to the New York City area for the first time ever this coming February and, as always, tickets will be hard to come by. At the Dec. 16 collectibles auction, however, a pair of tickets to the biggest sporting event of the year will be on the block (lot #1). This auction could help set the bar for what Super Bowl tickets go for in the weeks to come.

The greatest athletes of all-time
With more than 100 lots up for grabs, the American Auctions event will provide bidders with a plethora of classic items from which to choose. Among those are signed memorabilia from some of the greatest athletes to have ever taken the field or court.

Derek Jeter will be well-represented on Dec. 16, with 10 items, ranging from photos and baseballs to hats and jerseys, bearing the Yankee great's signature. And Jeter won't be the only Yankee whose memorabilia will be up for sale. A copy of Life Magazine with Mickey Mantle on the cover that was signed by the legendary center fielder (lot #6) will be available, as will baseballs autographed by Andy Pettite (lot #5) and Bernie Williams (lot #7).

Boxing history
Muhammad Ali is considered by many to be the greatest boxer of all-time, and he is undoubtedly one of the most famous athletes of the 20th century. On Dec. 16, collectors will have the opportunity to get their hands on items from his glory days, including a pair of autographed boxing trunks (lot #2), a glove signed by both him and rival Joe Frazier (lot #12) and a pre-fight robe that also bears Ali's John Hancock.

There are many more items that any true sports fan would love, and interested bidders can get a head start on the action by heading over to iCollector now to check out the inventory.
