American and Canadian coins feature in New Brunswick auction

Signature Select Auctions in New Brunswick, Canada, will host a coin and paper money auction on February 7. This auction will feature more than 500 lots of Canadian, American and other coins and paper money. For those who are interested in coin collecting yet unable to attend the auction in Canada, visit iCollector.com to place absentee bids online from your computer.

Canadian coins
One of the most valuable lots going to auction will be a 10 cent Canadian broad leaves coin from 1913 (lot #136). This coin features the bust of King George V on the obverse with the text DEI GRA. The "broad leaf" designation refers to the size of the leaves on the coin, which nearly touch the rim. This design is much rarer than the later "small-leaf" design, which has leaves that are markedly separate from the rim of the coin.

Canadian paper money of interest available at the auction is a French 10 dollar Bank of Canada note from 1935 (lot #275). This banknote features the signatures of Osborne and Towers, the first combination of signatures to be found on Canadian paper money.

American coins
The most highly valued American coin up for auction will be a $5 gold coin from 1901 (lot #392). This liberty head gold coin features an 'S' mint mark and is in very good condition.

There will also be Confederate States of America banknotes available at this auction, including a repaired 1861 $10 banknote featuring slight wear on the reverse. This was the first year that these notes were printed. Given the nature of their production, the notes feature many distinguishing marks, as they were signed and numbered by hand.

World coins
Most of the world coins available at this auction are modern. This includes a 10 yuan Chinese coin from 2013 (lot #419) and a $1 Australian coin from 2006 (lot #423). This small collection of world coins will be of interest to the collector of coins from a certain region or year.

All available lots are listed on iCollector.com for those interested in browsing the complete listing. Interested coin collectors looking to expand their hordes can do so by placing their bids online instead of in person. Always be sure to check back, as iCollector is updated often with everything from coin auctions to fine art auctions from around the world.
