2018 Spring Toronto Coin Expo Auction From Geoffrey Bell On May 3rd and 4th

The Toronto Coin Expo, Canada’s premier coin & banknote show, is on tap at the Toronto Reference Library. Geoffrey Bell Auctions is once again official auctioneer with a sale that features a superb offering of English and world coins and a fresh chartered proof banknote collection that are coming out of storage for the first time in numerous years. Bidding is available through iCollector.com with absentee bidding right up until each lot faces the auction block, and live bidding on both days of the auction.

May 3rd is a buffet of valuable ancient and Canadian coins up for bidding. For example, Lot 125 is a coin from the reign of Edward The Confessor (1042 – 1066), and Lot 153A is a Pattern Penny in Silver produced during the reign of Elizabeth I (1558 – 1603). Bidders can browse photos and descriptions of all the coins in the online catalog.

This session features two coins that can not be missed. At Lot 333A is an opportunity to bid on a 1965 Five Cent Piece graded by PCGS as MS65. This is a rare coin with only one better on the registry, with bidding opening at $2000. A few lots later is an 1893 Ten Cent piece that is ICCS VG-10. This is obv 6 and scarce round top 3 variety. Available at Lot 341, this can be had with an opening bid of only $750.

Featured on May 4th are a fantastic selection of banknotes. This auction has several fantastic notes from the Bank of Toronto. The most valuable is showing at Lot 1196. Presented is a 1911 Five Dollar Note that is superb rarity and the only known example. Graded PCGS F15 with S/N 558905/B it is noted as CH 715-22-08. Huge interest is intense, and this will sell well above the low estimate of 20,000.

Also featured at notes such as a $10 Merchants Bank of Halifax 1880 at Lot 1096, a New Brunswick 1859 Five Shilling note at Lot 1129, and a Union Bank of Canada $50 banknote from 1921. All notes have descriptions and photos for inspection in the online catalog.

Absentee bidding is currently open in the online catalog. The auction days are Thursday May 3rd and Friday May 4th 2018. Both sessions open for live bidding at 6PM Eastern Time. Geoffrey Bell Auctions and iCollector.com are excited to bring this auction to a worldwide audience, and will answer any questions from bidders about the pieces up for auction or how to get involved.
